Denise set to kiss and tell in her new show

-

SHE was one of the stars of pioneering LGBT comedy Boy Meets Girl and we’ll soon see Denise Welch have her first on screen kiss with a woman in the second series of lesbian drama Different for Girls.

The North East star of stage and screen will feature in the three part drama based on the novel of the same name by Jacquie Lawrence.

Different for Girls features a group of lesbian and bisexual women whose lives and loves revolve around children, marriage, betrayal and divorce. That is not to say that there isn’t room for drink, drugs, sex and dancing. There is. Just not in front of their wives and children. Set in Chiswick, these women are the ‘Real Lesbian Housewives of West London’.

Creator Jacquie Lawrence (former Channel 4 Commissioning Editor who was responsible for Dyke TV, Queer Street and Coming Out Night) says: “We decided to produce DFG as an independent web/television series as it gave us the freedom to produce a series without compromises or censorship and stay true to the spirit and daring of the original novel.”

“We want represent lesbians who live in the suburbs, who are more likely to meet their future partners at the school gates than at a club in Old Compton Street.”

The series sees Denise, who will be back on stage in Newcastle in musical Calendar Girls, experience her first female on-screen kiss with a woman. She plays a Triple L (late life lesbian) who leaves her husband of 35 years to sample a different life.

The cast also includes Denise’s Sunday for Sammy pal and Emmerdale favourite Charlie Hardwick).

Different for Girls can be seen on Lesbian Box Office from Monday, July 9.
