Behind the scenes with the wild boys

-

ICONIC British rock band Duran Duran take over BBC4 tonight with two brand new documentaries that give a rare insight into the megastars. Boys On Film – A Night With Duran Duran is a real treat, whether you are a devoted fan or not, showing previously unseen archive footage and rare demo tapes, as well as revealing the band’s inspirations across the decades since they formed in 1978 in Birmingham.

In There’s Something You Should Know, Simon Le Bon, John Taylor, Nick Rhodes and Roger Taylor talk candidly about their extraordinary career, charting the highs and lows.

It’s been no ordinary world for them, from playing small nightclubs in Birmingham to filling out stadiums around the world and releasing 14 groundbreaking albums.

There has been the fame, the fortune, the meltdowns, the hits, the misses, the videos, the tours, the fans, the partying and the supermodels – some of whom, like Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell, share memories here.

Other talking heads are Boy George, Mark Ronson and Nile Rodgers, while of course the whole doc is set to the soundtrack of their hit music.

London fashion designer Antony Price says: “They had the ba**s to run around with all the make up and the hair. This lot didn’t give a damn and they’d worked out that women quite liked it. They were a breath of fresh air.”

Stay tuned afterwards for Duran Duran: A Night In, which sees the band members sit back and talk through personally selected TV clips.

You’ll be digging out your Rio album (or buying it) before the evening is out...
