Debnam completely happy with his team

DUKES NTH/EAST PREMIER LG PREMIER DIVISION

-

BEN DEBNAM hailed a “complete performance” from his Tynemouth team in their 101-victory over Eppleton last weekend - now he wants to see it repeated, writes TONY HODGSON.

Debnam made an unbeaten 132 - and shared in an unbroken opening stand of 265 with Nick Armstrong (119) - to help the Preston Avenue side climb up to third the table.

They are now just 33 points behind leaders and champions South Northumberland going into this weekend’s home clash with the Durham Cricket Academy.

Captain Debnam said: “I am the first to admit we have not played to our potential over the first half of the summer.

“There have been good individual displays but too many times we have not clicked as a team.

“Saturday was the first time we have produced a complete performance, the batting being more consistent and our bowlers doing the business on a good wicket.

“That is very encouraging and augurs well for the future going into the second half of the campaign.”

He added: “It is very tight at the top.

“South North have picked up two wins and second-placed Whitburn are the surprise package of the season.

“There are six teams right up there with Benwell Hill, Chesterle-Street and Hetton Lyons also in the mix.

“Every team is capable of beating each other.

“We are pleased to be where we are and hopefully we can continue to challenge.”

On tomorrow’s match, Debnam said: “The Academy are a bit of an anomaly in that they don’t seem to start the season well but always improve as the weeks go by.

“They will not be easy side to beat - but we have momentum right now and this is a great chance for us to keep our good form going.”

TOMORROW’S FIXTURES - Premier Division: Chesterle-Street v Benwell Hill, Felling v Stockton, , Newcastle v Whitburn, Sacriston v Hetton Lyons, South North v Eppleton, Tynemouth v Durham CA. DIVISION ONE: Boldon v Gateshead Fell, Burnopfield v Burnmoor, Seaham Harbour v Brandon, South Shields v Castle Eden, Sunderland v Blaydon, Washington v Willington.
