City slickers too good for leaders

NORTHUMBER­LAND AND TYNESIDE LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

SWALWELL lost ground on the leaders after suffering a 21-run defeat at Newcastle City.

Crucial runs came at the end as Faisal Mohammed (31 not out) and Ihsan Ul-Haq (14 not out) boosted the City score as they reached 198-7. Nick Phillips took 3-20.

Stephen Smith contribute­d 52 but Zohaib Khan (4-21) and Palav Kumar (3-31) left Swalwell all out for 177.

Unbeaten leaders Shotley Bridge secured a 106-run success at Lintz.

Openers Kieran Milburn (89) and Greg Patterson (79) put on 171 before Mick Allen hit a quick 65 as the leaders posted 321-9.

Kieran Gohery claimed 3-50 and then notched 64 in Lintz’s reply as they ended 215-9 - Ross Burdon with 4-29.

Ashington stay third after their 72run home win over Alnmouth and Lesbury.

Ben O’Brien made an important 71 as the hosts were bowled out for 187 Dushan Hemantha with 4-65.

Ben Harmison then claimed 5-26 as the visitors could only muster 115 in their reply.

Fourth-placed Lanchester lost at Ryton by 65 runs.

The hosts totalled 224-8, Moh Ali top-scoring with 77 and David Howarth adding 42.

Lewis Donnelly registeed figures of 4-37, Kieron Taylor finishing with figures of 3-36.

Lanchester fell to 75-7 before Bryan Potts hit a fine 64 to hep them attain 159. Howarth finished with impressive figures of 6-32.

Tynedale edged past bottom side Stocksfiel­d by nine runs.

Callan McCabe struck 55 and Sam Peter posted a valuable 37 as Tynedale totalled 189 - Andrew Wood (5-22) and James Doneathy (4-58) doing the damage.

Opener Adrian Marrsion hit 61 before tailenders Wood (27 not out) and Chris Scandle (15) gave them late hope - but they were all out for 180. Paul Newton registered 4-23.

Consett came through by 68 runs at Percy Main.

The visitors watched Kamran Mansoor top-score with 89 as Consett amassed a healthy 255-6.

Will Taylor, in at No 7, registered a fine century, smashing 11 fours and three sixes to finish unbeaten on 102.

Percy Main managed 187 as Stuart Graham took 4-17.
