Anyone for tennis?

It’s easier than ever to get your young ones into the racquet sport

-

IT ONLY takes one ball to hit the grass at Wimbledon to create a surge of interest and excitement about the wonderful sport of tennis. Whether you’re already ace, or you’d like to learn to love it, there are lots of courses to help and inspire families to smash it.

The Lawn Tennis Association’s Tennis for Kids is back for its third year to offer youngsters aged between four and 11 across the country a value-for-money and fun introduction to the sport.

The scheme, launched in celebration of Great Britain’s historic Davis Cup triumph in 2015, provides kids with six introductory coaching sessions, a bespoke racquet, set of balls, and personalised T-shirt for £25.

British wheelchair tennis star Alfie Hewett says: “Tennis has given me so much both on and off the court, and I would encourage any child to give Tennis for Kids a go – it’s the perfect place to start.”

The event has already inspired more than 35,000 children to try tennis, with over half of those kids continuing to play on a follow-on course. LTA plans to grow the number of young players across the nation and meet rising demand, running Tennis for Kids courses all year round, widening the age range and broadening programme locations. Tennis for Kids is aimed at children who have never played before, focusing on fun and combining basic hand eye co-ordination with basic tennis skills. Parents are also encouraged to join in for the final session which has a ‘Family Time’ theme.
