A NEW documentary on the murder of stalker victim Alice Ruggles will highlight the lessons which need be learned from her death.

The 24-year-old was killed in her Gateshead home by her ex-boyfriend Trimaan “Harry” Dhillon in October 2016.

Dhillon cut her throat after he discovered she had found happiness with another man.

Since the Northumbria University graduate’s death, her family set up the Alice Ruggles Trust – a fund that aims to highlight the dangers of stalking.

Alice’s story has featured on numerous television and radio documentaries and now it will be told in a new true crime documentary series on 5STAR. On the trust’s website, it says: “Unlike ‘An Hour to Catch a Killer’ broadcast on ITV last year, which focused on the police investigation following Alice’s death, this new documentary tells the whole story of what happened to Alice and highlights the lessons that need to be learned, both by police and other agencies but also by the general public.”

During the trial of Dhillon, Newcastle Crown Court heard how the soldier’s controlling behaviour left Alice terrified, after she attempted to end their relationship.

The 26-year-old drove 120 miles from his barracks near Edinburgh to confront her.

Then Dhillon climbed through a window of her Bensham flat and grabbed a long, sharp carving knife which he used to kill her.

The soldier denied murder, claiming Alice, originally of Leicester, had fallen on the carving knife during an argument.

Special forces hopeful Dhillon, 26, was jailed for life with a minimum of 22 years by a judge at court following a lengthy trial.

Murdered By My Stalker will feature a number of people including Dave Thomason, of Cheshire Police’s new integrated anti-stalking unit and Richard Wright QC, the prosecution barrister in the trial of Alice’s murder.

Alice’s parents Sue Hill and Clive Ruggles, sister Emma and brother Nick, her close friend and flatmate Maxine will also feature.

Clive and Sue returned to the North East in June for a special event in memory of their daughter.

Her former colleagues at Sky Newcastle organised family fun event at Hebburn Sports Social Club, South Tyneside.

Murdered By My Stalker will be on 5STAR tonight at 10pm.
