Toon legend in sexism storm

TOON legend Alan Shearer was left fuming after his daughter was a victim of sexism while watching England’s World Cup semi-final.

Chloe Shearer was watching the tense clash against Croatia in a pub when she was asked to move so a group of men could watch the game.

On Twitter, she wrote: “In a pub trying to watch the football (like the rest of the country) and a lad behind us goes ‘sorry girls we have people at the loo coming back that are very interested in the football so can you move.’.. EXCUSE ME?! #girlslovefootballtoo #sexistpig #itscominghome.”

The incident infuriated her dad, who came to her defence and said: “You should have replied, ‘I’m surprised you could find your **** !!’ Now tell him to come and say it to your dad!”

Chloe then replied: “Always got my back pa.”

Former Newcastle United and England captain Shearer’s response has since had more than 6,000 likes and has been retweeted hundreds of times.

It even earned him the title of “dad of the year” from one supporter.

Twitter user Sam said: “Who wouldn’t want Alan Shearer as their dad! Legend!”

Adrian Rawden added: “Absolute top Dadding.”

Scores of people also commented on Chloe’s experience.

Kelvin Gair wrote of the pub incident: “He should be ashamed of himself. Our country is mixed female and male supporters.”

Twitter user Mickb62 added: “Do those clowns ever go to an actual match and see how many women and girls go the match or actually play the game? They must just sit in the pub with blinkers on. Were they little boys trying to be men?”

And football lover Katherine Heyes commented: “Love the reply... why are some blokes such d **** . I’ve played for my town, more than my husband did, and our daughter loves sport just as much as any boys at her age (she’s two).”
