ONLY in Britain would you find a reality show about caravanning. Can you think of a more British way of spending the summer holidays? This tour de force of five celebrities on a road trip is a good laugh and doesn’t take itself too seriously.
It’s pitched (sorry) as a holiday adventure they’ll never forget, with trials and tribulations. But unless you count a puncture as a “tribulation”, that might be slightly over-egging the pudding.
The biggest drama is when they get lost or have trouble reversing the caravan.
It’s the big personalities here that make this fun to watch.
“Caravans to me are a joy,” says Sherrie Hewson, of Corrie and Benidorm fame. She’ll soon change her mind about that.
Doctor Who legend Colin Baker quips: “I’m accustomed to whizzing about in a small box. But will it be bigger on the inside?” It most certainly is not.
Also packing their showbiz bags for the (cramped) journey to the Lake District are DJ Tony Blackburn, ex-EastEnders actor Todd Carty and pop singer Sonia. None are afraid to say what they think.
After a quick selfie together at the statue of Eric Morecambe (in, er Morecambe), the five set off for Kendal.
However, when the group gets lost and ends up with a puncture, the celebrities’ plans go awry.
Finally at the campsite, they are now faced with the unenviable task of reversing the caravans onto their pitches, before bedding down for their first night. But squished into close quarters, it could all get rather in-tents.
