Pay decent wage to the employed

-

A reader recently pointed out that many of the jobs that have been created lately are low payed and thus not providing much income tax to the Treasury. Sunderland is the place to be When the tall ships arrive for us to see Clippers and Schooners with sails held high Let’s hope the weather stays warm and dry When they drop anchor along the Wear It’s best to be early if you want to get near As thousand of visitors flock to the scene Some with cameras to record where they’ve been Standby crews above and below Will be glad to answer what you wish to know

Added to this should of course be the fact that due to low pay many of these workers are having to claim benefits thus depriving the Treasury of even more revenue.

If these workers were payed a decent wage it would solve There will be street entertainers and that’s not all Maybe an ice cream and candy floss stall Or you might see a seagull or two Fighting for scraps thrown out by a crew The options are plenty so where else can you go Ask any guide they’re sure to know When they start racing anchors away Crowds will be there on the final day To bid farewell with a hearty cheer As they all sail out from the mouth of the Wear Rachel Nelson both problems at once.

Of course employers would wrongly cry foul and claim they couldn’t afford to employ people on increased wages just as they did when New Labour introduced a minimum wage.
