YOU will see a lot of these North East sausage dogs and swing dancers over the next few months.

That’s because they are going to be featured between the programmes on BBC One.

Dog walkers Dachshunds North East UK and County Durham swing dancers Lindy Jazz star in the short clips known as idents.

Nine sausage dogs and their owners filmed a short 30-second segment at Newcastle’s Quayside Seaside.

Meanwhile, Lindy Jazz strutted their stuff at St Cuthbert’s Centre in Crook.

Both idents will be shown to millions of viewers across the country from July 14, until the end of the Great Exhibition of the North.

BBC England director Helen Thomas said: “It’s fantastic to see North East communities represented in the new BBC One idents, which are great fun.

“We have a commitment to bring more content to audiences in the North of England and now, with these new idents, we’re able to bring a little bit of Newcastle and County Durham to the rest of the UK.”

The idents were created by BBC Creative and filmed by Martin Parr, one of the country’s most celebrated documentary photographers.

Current clips include the hippos swimming in a circle, which most BBC One viewers will be familiar with.

Susanne Kupke, from Dachshunds North East UK, said: “We had so much fun filming with Martin Parr in Newcastle. It’s really exciting that we will be able to see ourselves, and our collection of long and smooth-haired dachshunds on BBC One. The dogs obviously steal the show!”

The clips are part of BBC’s Oneness campaign, which aims to bring the nation together by representing the rich diversity of communities in the UK.

Lindy Jazz director Joo-Lee Stock said: “It was such a thrill to be asked to film an ident for BBC One. Lindy Jazz promotes happiness, health and confidence through swing dance, and I hope our contribution to the BBC’s Oneness campaign brings joy to viewers.”
