YOU NEVER MENTIONED THE WIFE!

Lovestruck tourist who made plea to find woman is married

LOVESTRUCK Gary Guest, who managed to track down the woman he fancied on holiday, is married, The Chronicle can reveal.

Two weeks ago we told how smitten Gary couldn’t stop thinking about a woman he only knew as Marie after meeting her in a bar in Albufeira in Portugal during a lads’ holiday.

And, when he returned to his home in Nottingham, he asked The Chronicle to help him find his “princess”.

Within hours of us putting his plea online to search for the woman of his dreams, our army of readers helped track down Marie Donnelly, who admitted she was “very flattered”.

But, after the couple messaged each other and Gary had asked the 29-year-old if he could meet her in Newcastle, shocked Marie then received a message on Facebook from Gary’s other half Heather saying “Romeo has got a wife”.

“I couldn’t believe it,” said Marie, of Gateshead. “After Gary did what he did to find me, I was very flattered. He kept messaging me and he asked if he could come up to Newcastle to see me. I didn’t want to meet up with him straightaway as I didn’t know much about him but then, after our story appeared in the media, I got a message from his wife saying ‘Do you know Romeo has got a wife?.’

“I then messaged Gary and said we had better leave it at that.

“Gary messaged me saying he wanted to meet up so he could tell me in person that he was separated.

“He said he wanted to tell me in person before social media did but that looks as though it had beaten him to it.

“All my friends thought it was funny and I suppose it is one of those stories I will be telling for years to come,” added Marie, who works in public relations – and is single.

We originally told how Gary only had Marie’s first name when he set about his search. Unable to trawl through the thousands of Maries on social media, he asked The Chronicle to play Cupid and put out his plea for the correct Marie to step forward.

And, within just a few hours of our story going live, Gary was put in touch with the woman he’d been dreaming about.

Gary was sitting in Sir Harry’s bar in the Old Town Square in Albufeira with his friends on Tuesday, June 19, at around 11pm when Marie walked in.

The 42-year-old couldn’t take his eyes off her and asked to buy her a drink via the waitress. Gary then took the drink over to her and said “that is for a beautiful princess”.

Marie then thanked him and kissed him on the cheek. The guys asked her name and she told them she was Marie from the North East. About 10 minutes later she left. Gary jumped up to give her one last kiss on the cheek and Marie walked away into the distance. At the time, Gary said: “Like a fool, I let her go.” But now Gary has changed his tune and, after being contacted by The Chronicle, he admitted he was still living in the same house as his wife but, for the past two years, claimed they had been living separate lives. Gary, who says he doesn’t have children, said: “We have been living separate lives for about the last two years, there is nothing physical between us, we don’t sleep together, we don’t sleep in the same bedroom. We still live together because I am the main bill payer in the house. “The last time I texted Marie I said ‘can I see you’ but she said ‘I know you’re married.’ I wanted to tell her face to face but social media beat me to it. We’ve not spoken since then. I don’t want to push something if it’s not going to go anywhere. I have just got back on to Facebook so I will message Marie to apologise to her.”
