TWO sports clubs in Tyne and Wear will be improving their facilities this year - while also helping to give young people trade and building skills.
The projects - at Houghton-leSpring Golf Club and Newcastle’s West End Rugby Club - have been made possible by a partnership between the clubs and the national initiative Volunteer It Yourself.
They will help young people to enhance their CVs by learning trade and building skills on the job and gaining vocational skills accreditations. ■■HARTLEYBURN Karate Club’s Lucas Frater passed two grades from white belt to red - at a gradings competiition in Sunderland run by the Northern Karate Association. ■■ALNWICK will face Stocksfield in the semi-finals of the Hadrian Golf League’s Davison Cup at Tyneside GC.
In the other last-four clash, Tyneside meet Bellingham at Alnwick GC. ■■CONSETT beat Heworth 11-3 in Division One of the North Durham Golf League.

In the ECB Under-19 Club T20 competition, Gateshead Fell host South Shields. ■■MORPETH B defeated Astley B 26-0 in the Northumberland Summer Netball League’s Under-14 Division.
