Perez ‘living the dream’ in the Premier League with Newcastle

- By CHRIS WAUGH NUFC Writer

AYOZE Perez insists he is “living the dream” playing for Newcastle United – and wants to fulfil his potential under Rafa Benitez on Tyneside, despite transfer interest from Spanish clubs.

Real Betis and Real Sociedad are among the clubs who have been linked with the 24-year-old so far this summer – as have Italian outfit Napoli – and they are believed to have enquired about the forward earlier in the window.

Last term, Perez finished as United’s top scorer with 10 goals in all competitions – including eight in the Premier League – while he also provided five assists, and he was arguably Newcastle’s star performer during the second half of the 2017/18 season. Under Rafa Benitez’s tutelage, Perez has flourished in the No 10 role for the Magpies. And, with United having yet to sign an attacking midfielder this summer, the former Tenerife forward will be a vital member of the first-team squad once again for the 2018/19 campaign.

Ahead of Newcastle’s first pre-season friendly against St Patrick’s Athletic tonight, Perez has committed his future to the club.

“I am living my dream of playing in the Premier League, playing for a massive team, and so it’s good to be here and I love playing for this club, Perez said during the Magpies’ media day at the club’s Carton House training camp.

“Obviously it is good to have interest from those Spanish teams, because it makes you feel like you are doing something great, and shows I must be doing something right.”
