LONG LOST FAMILY ITV, 9.30pm

GET ready for more emotional turmoil as this eighth series begins.

In one heartbreaking search, Pearse Egan, 29, is looking for his father Eddie. The last contact with him was a snatched phone call from America shortly after his sixth birthday. Eddie had sent him a card, but when Pearse asked why he hadn’t ever sent a card before, Pearse got upset and ran out of the phone box crying. His mother Ann made the decision to cut contact.

“I need to be able to say the word ‘Dad’ to him” says Pearse, tearful as he reads that birthday card. But if you think that’s tear-jerking, just wait... Meanwhile, Christina Barlow moved from Bogota to Berkshire when she was adopted by an English couple. Can she find her Colombian birth mum? Can the team protect Inspector Chowdhry?
