Experienced striker signs for the Heed

- By JEFF BOWRON

GATESHEAD are set to add muchneeded experience to their squad with the capture of well-travelled frontman Scott Boden.

After a barren two years in front of goal, Boden is keen to get back on the goal standard with the Heed - his eighth club.

The Yorkshireman, who spent five years in the Football League with Chesterfield playing more than 100 games, has agreed terms.

He was top scorer in his one season at League Two club Newport County with 15 goals, earning a move to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Boden scored the goal against Barnet which put Newport in the third round of the FA Cup for the first time in 30 years.

He notched 22 goals in 2013/14 for Macclesfield Town and 13 the season after at Halifax, the last two years being much less productive.

The 28-year-old found the net just three times for Wrexham last season and is desperate to get back on track.

Boden told the Chronicle: “It has been a poor 24 months for me.

“I need to rediscover my mojo at Gateshead and it is a big year for me.

“It has been a bit crazy in recent years playing in England, Scotland and Wales but I have scored goals in the Football League and the Conference.

“I will be one of the older heads in the team and hopefully we will surprise people - I will be trying my utmost to make that happen.”
