He was my world

TRAGIC Dylan Smith’s fiancé has paid tribute to her “one of a kind” soulmate.

Dylan, 22, died at the weekend just three weeks after his older brother Darryl, a popular barber.

Steph Wylam, 18, said her loving fiancé was “perfect in every way”.

The couple, who lived together in Blyth, had first met at a house party four and a half years ago.

Steph said: “Dylan was one of a kind, a Jack the lad. He was so caring. He loved nothing more than to just be there for people and help as much he could.

“When we met, Dylan said to me ‘You will be mine.’ A week later we started meeting up and seeing each other, and from then on we were never apart.

“He was my world, my soul mate. I did anything and everything for him. He is just an amazing bubbly lad, he is amazing in every way.”

There has been an outpouring of social media tributes to Dylan, who was a kitchen porter at La Torre restaurant in Blyth.

Dylan and Steph had been engaged since July 2016.

Steph, who works as a hairdresser, said: “Dylan and I always had movie night snuggled up in the settee with plenty of junk food as that’s what Dylan loved to do with me.

“Every Sunday we made a day of it – we just had me and him time. He used to call it our date day even though we were never apart anyway.

“Every year on our birthday we had a night in a hotel or a weekend break. He was absolutely perfect in every way and I just miss him so very much.

“I just wish I could of done something to stop this.”

Dylan and Darryl, 27, were said to be “inseparable” on a fundraising page set up by family friend Leanne Hayter. Leanne said the family have been left “absolutely broken” by what has happened, but that the Blyth community has come together to support them.

Shortly after the loss of his brother, Dylan wrote on Facebook: “My best friend, brother and dad all in one. I can’t put into words how devastating this is.

“I thank you all for your kind words. I don’t [know] how I can reply to any of your messages.

“He was an inspiration to a lot of people and I am truly amazed by the response of the people in Blyth that have [come] together.”

Meanwhile, the distraught cousin of Dylan has paid tribute to “the brother I never had” after his tragic death.

Dylan’s cousin Danielle Craggs has now spoken of her heartbreak and said: “He was like the brother I never had.

“He was always overprotective of me, especially when it came to boys, and would always tell me how much he loved me and my family.”

Since his brother’s death in June, Danielle says Dylan had “been incredibly strong for his family” and spent lots of time with Darryl’s daughter.

Upset Danielle, 21, added: “He was always happy, always funny and always able to make me laugh.

“Dylan was happy-go-lucky and would do anything for anyone, always with a smile.

“All the brothers are really close, but I think Dylan and Darryl were the closest. Like he said, Darryl was like a father figure for him and that brought them even closer.”

An outpouring of heartfelt tributes have also flooded social media, including from brother Liam, who wrote: “Words cannot describe how I feel to lose you as well. “Give Darryl a hug from me.” You can find the JustGiving page raising money in memory of Dylan Smith at www.justgiving.com
