Leam Lane pair prove Two good in final of the Sunshine Pairs
TWO new names have been added to the Northern Women’s Bowling Association’s Two-Bowl Sunshine Pairs Trophy.
They are Audrey Diamond and Margaret Wallwork (Leam Lane) who defeated Doreen Audus and Dorothy Stewart (Dunston).
The event - the first of this season’s charity compeititons - was played in matches of 12 ends.
In the quarter-finals, Pauline Foster and Kay Cromarty (Ravensworth A) cane through 9-6 against Lyndhurst’s Linda Dodsowrth and Pat Johnson.
Audus and Stewart also enjoyed a narrow victory against Kath Harris and Irene Brown (Walker).
Pat Smith (Ryton) and Irene Stobbs (Heaton) had the edge over Catherine Lazenby and Pat Wright (Lyndhurst) 12-8.
A last end of two shots put Diamond and Wallwork through 11-9 against clubmates Joan Carney and Maureen Newton.
In the semi-finals, Foster and Cromarty lost 10-8 to Aldus and Stewart after leading 8-3 after eight ends. The lead see-sawed in the other last-four clash with only a one-shot difference separating Smith and Stobbs from Diamond and Wallwork - but the Leam Lane pair eventually prevailed 10-7.
In the final, Diamond and Wallwork raced into a 14-1 lead with three three ends still unplayed to secure the title.
Proceeds went to the Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund.
