Locked up for attacks

-

Jamie Bennett, 27, Kevin Bennett, 28, both of Losh Terrace, Walker and James, 28, of Midway, Walker, all pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking and affray and Kevin Bennett and James also admitted failing to provide a specimen.

All three were jailed for two-anda-half years.

Jonathan Pigford, for Jamie Bennett, disputed prosecution claims they had gone round initially to get a motorbike and claimed it was to buy drugs.

He described the squirting of the ammonia as a “pretty lame attempt” and said the offending was out of character.

Andrew Walker, for Kevin Bennett, said he had only been released last year from an indefinite sentence for public protection, which had a three-year minimum tariff set in 2007 but for which he served 11 years.

He has been recalled on that and Mr Walker added: “He fears he will serve over tariff again this time.

“He pleaded guilty on the basis he had no weapon and he didn’t actually use violence.

“He was not the driver. The evidence was not clear who was. When arrested he was in the back.”

Nick Cartmell, for James, said: “He is very sorry for the part he played.

“He was not the one knocking on the door, he was not the one who initially got in the car. He was a follower of his friends. The victim drove to the scene and left the key in the ignition.

“He asks me to express his regret about having been involved.”
