Scholarship set to boost Toon talent

-

NEWCASTLE United Foundation is launching a new football and education programme in partnership with Newcastle College and Consett AFC for the 2018/19 season.

The two-year scholarship gives talented young players between 16 and 18 the chance to combine academic studies with practical football experience and is designed to bridge the gap between grassroots and academy football.

As a student-athlete on the programme, players will represent the Newcastle United Foundation in a National Football Youth League against other Premier League and Football League representative teams.

Students will receive training from the Foundation’s coaching team.

They will also have access to strength and conditioning training and physiotherapy and have the opportunity to access video analysis.

Newcastle College will facilitate the education element of the programme by supporting players through a BTEC Level Three Extended Diploma in Sport plus a range of other sporting qualifications.

The course will be based at Consett AFC, who will support player development by providing additional playing opportunities within their set-up.
