Slessor pockets second Bay crown in a week by seeing off Wilson

-

ELLIOT Slessor claimed his second Whitley Bay SC one-day handicapped pro-am tournament victory in a week, beating fellow Wallsend cueman Gary Wilson 3-1.

Slessor started well with an ice-cool performance to beat Blyth’s Brendon Errage (off 45) in three straight frames with runs of 98, 86 and 88.

A further 3-1 victory in the last eight against Dale Alan (off five) included more breaks of 78, 72 and 67.

He then followed that by reaching the final with a second 3-1 success - this time over Gateshead’s minus-20 potter Brandon Hall.

Having to concede 75 points a frame to his Blyth namesake Ash Wilson, Gary Wilson did well to stay in the match with notable breaks in the upper 50s and 60s to keep the scores at 2-2 before clinching the match in the decider with a frame-winning 97 which included 13 reds and 12 blacks.

Off five more points than his previous opponent, Wilson’s next challenger was Blyth’s Andrew Robson whom he romped past 3-1 with a top break of 140 which eventually won him the highest break of the day award. Wilson then accounted for the badlyhandicapped Gerry McNally (off 15) 3-0 with a string of breaks ranging from the 30s up to the 80s.

In the final it was Slessor who enjoyed the better run of the balls to claim the match.

Gateshead’s scratch player Malcolm Jones claimed the Plate first prize following a 2-1 final defeat of North Shields’ Craig Sexton.

There was better luck for Gary Wilson (minus 40) when he won the Sunday Pro-Am with a 2-1 victory over Gateshead’s Daniel Mallott (off 35).
