Onwurah is right to raise concerns

-

THOUGH I’m not a Labour voter NOR a football fan (in spite of being born in the slums of Glasgow) I most certainly think that Chi Onwurah has got it right.

The wellbeing of Newcastle United and their many supporters - and how the club is being run - is very much of interest to the city of Newcastle.

And as their MP, it also concerns Chi Onwurah. As a long-time reader I know for a fact why she has made her concerns about how the club is being run - or should that be MIS-run - by Mike Ashley.

Practically since the day he bought it he has only been concerned with “the bottom line.” That is, how much he can make from the fans.

It is quite obvious he only looks on the club as, a milch cow. He appears to spend as little as he can get away with, so the profit at the end of the year will always exceed outlay.

Success in the league or cup competitions are of little interest to him. He knows that the faithful fans will always turn up in their thousands.

As long he keeps expenditure lower than outlay - and the fans keep turning up - there will be no great winning campaigns at St James’ Park.

Ms Onwurah has got it right. How Newcastle United are doing IS of great interest to the fans AND the city as a whole.

They have, at present, one of the top football mangers. He HAS to have money to spend on top players.
