Scooter riders help Brian on his epic trek

-

THREE scooter enthusiasts saddled up to tackle a ride around the wilds of northern Scotland to lend support to cancer charity founder Brian Burnie as he continues his 7,000-mile coastal path trek around Britain and Ireland.

The North Coast 500 is one of the country’s celebrated motorcycling rides, and friends Paul King, Daniel Laurie and Michael Perry took up the challenge on their 40-year-old Honda C90 scooters.

After driving to Inverness, the trio took their scooters off the van and rode to Applecross and up to Ullapool and on to Thurso and John O’Groats, meeting Brian in Thurso after 497 miles. Their aim was also to raise £1,000 for Brian’s Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care charity, but ended up with almost double that.

Paul, who like Michael is from Morpeth – Dan has recently moved to Gateshead – was managing director of KTNE which carries out work to help customise Daft as a Brush ambulances for patient transport.

He said: “Our biggest worries were the reliability of such old machines, and the weather. It’s painful riding at 20mph in torrential rain, but we wanted to spread the word about Brian’s amazing work, taking Daft as a Brush all over the country.”

Brian Burnie started his epic walk on March 5 to promote the opening of Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care hubs all over Britain and Ireland.
