Reporter A PUB in Northumberland that “offers feel-good vibes all week long” has been named among the top 10 in the UK.

The Boat House, on Station Road, in Wylam, was put on the list following a new study by holidaycottages. co.uk.

Their Pick of the Pubs guide analysed over 50 public houses from some of the country’s most popular holiday destinations, such as Cornwall, Yorkshire, Wales and Northumberland.

Each establishment was individually judged based on quality of food and drink, best features as chosen by local customers, accessibility and overall reviews and satisfaction on TripAdvisor.

The top pub was revealed to be The Cottage Loaf in Llandudno, Wales, where rave reviews online and regular local beers saw it as a cut above the rest. The average cost of a pint in the area is £2.95, with an inexpensive, quality meal costing just £10.

The Boat Inn, Ashleworth, The Cotswolds, was voted in second place, while Hicks Bar in St Austell, Cornwall, was ranked at number three.

The Boat House in Wylam came in at number nine on the table, and was given 10 out of 10 for its quality of drinks.

The study said: “Located next to Wylam Train Station, The Boat House is a pub that takes its beer very seriously, boasting 14 handpull options at any one time.

“Beer aficionados adore The Boat House, which features 12 changing beers, three real ciders, and a good selection of wine and spirits.

“Their Bank Holiday beer festivals attract crowds from Newcastle and beyond, and their dedication to sourcing the best draught ales has seen them win a staggering 15 CAMRA awards over the years. A welcoming pub that has a dogfriendly policy and a Tuesday busker night, it offers feel-good vibes all week long.”

Collating data surrounding consumer spending, the guide also reveals where in the UK you can get the cheapest and most expensive pint.

Topping the charts is Buckingham, where a pint of domestic beer will set you back a mere £2.

This is over 50% cheaper than the capital, where you can expect to pay at least £5 for the equivalent pint of beer.

James Morris, CEO at holidaycottages.co.uk, said: “A great local pub is ingrained in UK culture and a vital part of any British holiday.

“We’re lucky to have such incredible establishments across the UK, offering good quality food and drink that showcase local life and support small businesses.

“It’s interesting to discover that the cheapest pints are hidden in the pubs of Buckingham, we certainly weren’t expecting that.

“Holidaymakers need to make sure they take enough money if they’re heading to some of the more expensive watering holes.”

He added: “We hope this guide will allow users to find out a little bit more about a pub either near them or where they are going on holiday.”
