Be careful what fans wish for

PEOPLE like Martyn Hancock

(Feedback, August 9), dreaming of the glory days of Newcastle United and stating that the club should be in the top four, want to get real.

May I suggest that all doubters look on the internet for current Premier League club owners. They will find that Mike Ashley, as he himself has previously stated, cannot compete with the big boys.

There are eight clubs with owners richer than him and some dwarf his fortune.

We have recently been compared with newlypromoted Fulham. Their owner is buying Wembley Stadium as an extra!

What is interesting is that Manchester United, Liverpool and now Arsenal all have very rich owners but run these clubs with huge debts incurring annual interest charges, which are charged to the club.

Their supporters, in spite of their success, also express dissatisfaction with owners.

Our club debts have been taken on personally by the owner without interest charges and is being run on sensible lines financially.

What amuses me are the comments of past players some of whom cannot even manage their own finances let alone understand business accounts.

Bearing in mind the media bias particularly in interviews with members of the public who spout anti-owner rubbish in many cases, who in their sane mind would want a death wish by buying the club?

The only interest shown was by someone who would have to arrange loans to make the purchase. Be careful what you wish for. BRIAN TAYLOR, North Shields
