Ssss-andra the snake shocks shoppers
THIS is the 6ft snake which was found slithering around Newcastle city centre yesterday.
The huge albino corn snake was spotted down an alley off Dean Street at lunchtime.
A couple of brave women who saw it wriggling around managed to bundle it into a cardboard box and hand it in at Forth Banks police station
The RSPCA is now taking care of the snake, which has been given the name of Sandra, and its owners are being encouraged to get in touch to get it back.
Corn snakes, which are indigenous to North America, kill their prey by constricting it rather than with a venomous bite.
They don’t pose any threat to humans – but don’t pretend you wouldn’t jump if you saw this beast glide past you on your lunch break.
According to the RSPCA, they live for 10-15 years, munch on mice and are commonly kept as pets.
Northumbria Police tweeted: “Our front office were in for a shock today when a 6ft albino corn snake was handed in after being found slivering down an alley off Dean Street!
“After a few hours they calmed down and gave it a new name of ‘Sandra’!
“A massive shout-out to the passerby and her friend who caught the snake and bundled it into the cardboard box before bringing it along to Forth Banks.
“Hopefully the RSPCA can find out where it came from.”
