First Lady Mags win raising three cheers

FA NATIONAL LEAGUE NORTHERN DIVISION ONE

-

NEWCASTLE United secured their first points of the season with a 3-1 victory at Crewe Alexandra.

The Lady Mags took the lead after 23 minutes in bizarre fashion.

Crewe goalkeeper Hannah Holloway kicked the ball against Jess Foster and Rhiannon Gray reacted to the ricochet - heading the ball forward to Nicole Dack, who neatly finished.

Three minutes later Newcastle spurned a glorious chance to double their lead when Foster ran into the box, rounded the goalkeeper but shot against the post.

Foster was again involved in the second goal 12 minutes before the break, squaring the ball for Megan McKenzie to tap in.

However, three minutes later the hosts were back in it when Beth Grice found the bottom corner.

Newcastle then wasted another chance to go in at the break 3-1 up when Brooke Cochrane saw her penalty saved.

Newcastle did strike again after 76 minutes, Gray with a brilliant run before playing in Foster, who made no mistake this time.

Chester-le-Street Town’s perfect start continued with a 3-1 victory at home against Barnsley.

A fine strike from Nicole Havery gave the hosts a tenth-minute lead before Elizabeth Thompson-Clarke netted her first goal for the club 13 minutes later.

Barnsley were much improved in the second period and were rewarded eight minutes from time when Annie Ward flicked home following a corner.

However four minutes later Amy Kelly scored to secure the points for the Durham side.

Norton and Stockton Ancients collected their first points of the season by beating Liverpool Feds 4-2 at home.

Bianca Owens claimed equalising goals in each half before Nyci Thorns notched twice in the last five minutes to seal the points.

IN the Premier League, Sunderland prevailed 2-1 at Bradford City.

Bridget Galloway converted from the spot after 15 minutes but this was cancelled out after 33 minutes when Olivia Taylor also netted from 12 yards after Grace McCatty pulled back the home striker inside the box.

The winner came two minutes later when Keira Ramshaw beat the goalkeeper at her near post.
