Dumighan eyes home win to seal Swalwell charge

NORTH’LAND & TYNESIDE SENIOR LEAGUE

-

SWALWELL require just five points from their home game with Ryton to win the title again.

Swalwell captain Paul Dumighan said: “We are unchanged from last week, and we will be approaching the game like any other with a view to winning it.

“As ever, we are expecting it to be a tough game, as Ryton possess several match-winners, but hopefully it will be another challenge we can overcome.”

Ryton are not safe from relegation, but do have a 20-point cushion over Lintz, who currently fill the second relegation slot.

Ryton captain David Howarth said: “Dean Bailey and Richard Brooks both miss out for our last game, and we have Lochlann Young-Hall and Jack Paisley on hold, to replace them. We are just looking to finish strongly with a win.”

Consett, in second, can only go to Newcastle City and win their game and hope the leaders slip up.

Chairman Alan Waters said: “Though the pre-season aim was to finish in the top four and win a cup, it feels like a disappointing one right now, because as recently as two weeks ago all was going well and success on both fronts looked a distinct possibility.

“However, there is one cup final awaiting and it is hoped events go our way and the cup aim is achieved.”

City have the chance to finish fourth with a win, and skipper Sandeep Padmalaya said: “The side is now gaining in confidence and experience and performances are more consistent.

“Having a good professional has also played a large part in this and it is hoped he will be here next season for another stab at the league.”

Relegated Stocksfield finish their season at Shotley Bridge, and Stocksfield captain Dan Whiley said: “Ben Archer and Sam Beadle drop out, and Aaron Rourke and Jon Tobin come in to replace them.

“Unfortunately, we are being relegated, so it is just a case of trying our best, aiming for a win, and ending on a high.”

Shotley Bridge captain Paul Greenwell said: “Jonathon Telford comes in to replace Joe Gibson for our last game of the season. There is nothing really to play for, but we hope to end the season on a high with a win.”

Lintz are three points behind Percy Main and travel to Lanchester. Lintz skipper Jonny Foster said: “Though this is the final fixture of the season, it is still a very important one because there is uncertainty within the leagues about promotion and relegation.

“Nothing is clear-cut. A win is vital to avoid the possibility of going down, so it’s all to play for.”

Percy Main journey to Alnmouth & Lesbury, knowing that a win will keep them safe.

Main skipper David Anderson remarked: “We are at full strength for only the second time this year, which has led to the relegation scrap the club has been part of for much of the season.”

Alnmouth & Lesbury skipper Tom Vickers said: “The club is happy with the turn of events throughout the season and expectations have been met.

“Consolidation next season is the aim and a move up the table would be the icing on the cake.”

Tynedale host Ashington in their last game, and Tynedale captain Tom Cant said: “We have one change for our last game of the season, as Euan Stephenson comes in for Nathan Byerley.”
