BY CAR THE Great North Run takes place on Sunday which means there are a number of road closures. A167(M) Central Motorway in both directions closed due to Great North Run from A167/Great North Road to Tyne Bridge (Swan House Roundabout). A167 Jedburgh Road in both directions closed due to Great North Run from A189 Grandstand Road (Cow Hill) to A167(M)/Great North Road. A167 Tyne Bridge in both directions closed due to Great North Run from A167(M) Swan House Roundabout to A184 Park Lane. A183 in both directions closed due to Great North Run from Marsden Grotto to New Crown Roundabout. A184 Park Lane in both directions closed due to Great North Run from A167 Gateshead Highway to Leam Lane (White Mare Pool Roundabout). A194 Eastbound closed due to Great North Run from A184 (White Mare Pool Roundabout) to A1300 John Reid Road. A1300 John Reid Road Eastbound closed due to Great North Run from A194/Leam Lane to A1018 King George Road. A1300 Redwell Lane in both directions closed due to Great North Run from A1018 King George Road to A183 Coast Road. A189 Killingwor­th Road in both directions closed due to major roadworks between West Farm Avenue and Freeman Road.

BY BUS Bus services are diverted on routes around Newcastle and Gateshead Quaysides from Saturday, September 1, to allow for the staging of the 2018 Great North Run. There will then be major diversions or cancellati­on of routes in South Tyneside, Gateshead and parts of Newcastle City Centre on Saturday September 8 and on Sunday September 9, the day of the event itself. Route 10A will be unable to call at stops between Folly Lane and the A695 by-pass, Greenside, Gateshead, after 8pm for five nights from Monday, September 3. This is due to the A695 Ryton by-pass being closed for works connected to a new homes developmen­t. Passengers should use the nearest alternativ­e stops in Greenside. Killingwor­th Road, Gosforth, is closed between South Gosforth Roundabout and West Farm Avenue until (approx) summer 2019. Routes 18, 18A, 38, 54, 218, X7, X8 & X63 are diverted via Four Lane Ends.

BY METRO On Sunday, September 9 there will be closures to help improve crowd control for the Great North Run. Haymarket - no entry (exit only) from 8am until 10.40am. Please use Monument. Jesmond and Manors - closed from 10.40am until early afternoon. Please use Haymarket or Monument. Chichester - closed from 1pm until early evening. Please use South Shields.

BY TRAIN In order to improve reliabilit­y, London North Eastern Railway (LNER) are running an amended timetable. Strike action is taking place on Northern trains each Saturday until September 29.
