SOUTH Shields will entertain former Football League opposition in the FA Cup second qualifying round for the second consecutiv­e season.

Vanarama National League North side Stockport County will travel to Mariners Park on Saturday, September 22 in one of the ties of the round.

The Hatters currently sit in 11th place in the National League North table and are managed by former Northern Ireland internatio­nal Jim Gannon.

Mariners joint-manager Lee Picton told the club’s website: “It’s a fantastic draw. First and foremost we were looking for a home draw, so we’re pleased to have that.

“The fact we have drawn a former Football League club at Mariners Park adds to the excitement.”

An away tie at one of the FA Cup’s most well-known giantkille­rs is Whitley Bay’s prize for their late heroics in their win over Whitby Town on Saturday.

Andy Gowens takes his side to Moss Lane for face Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division club Altrincham, who have featured in the first round proper on 34 occasions.

A replay win against Ashton Athletic tonight will see Morpeth Town travel to Bootham Crescent to face two-time FA Trophy winners York City.

Newcastle Benfield also face a replay later today when they travel to Workington, and they head to Cumbria knowing their prize for progressin­g will be an away tie at Knaresboro­ugh Town.

Northern League duo Consett and Dunston UTS have been handed home ties against Warrington Town and Irlam respective­ly.

National League North clubs Blyth Spartans and Spennymoor Town will both travel to Cheshire for their second qualifying round ties.

Alun Armstrong’s Spartans side face former Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division rivals Nantwich Town, and Spennymoor face Witton Albion at Wincham Park.
