Curry in red hot form for Tomahawks

WHITLEY Tomahawks made it four points out of four when they defeated Solihull Barons 7-4 in English Under-15 North Division Two at the Hobs Moat Rink.

They had to come from behind to win the game after the home side was the quickest out of the blocks.

The Barons went ahead after only ten seconds when Maksims Fomins nabbed his first goal of the game.

The Tomahawks pressed for an equaliser but found themselves 2-0 down against the run of play when Fomins added his second on 07.36.

The visitors pulled a goal back four minutes later courtesy of Owen Curry’s first counter of the season.

The Tomahawks then drew level 61 econds into the middle period despite being short-handed as Owen Yarrow sat out a minor penalty - Curry with his second goal of the game.

It was a second powerplay opportunit­y for Tomahawks when they took the lead through Yarrow, Matthew Betham picking up the assist.

In this middle session, the Tomahawks were more clinical in front of the net than their hosts and two strikes in as many minutes from Curry put them 5-2 ahead.

Joel Bearman in the Barons’ net was being kept busy as he stopped the Tomahawks from increasing their advantage while at the other end Jamie Ryan was beaten at 33.23 as Alexander Rogers reduced the deficit.

Five minutes later Yarrow claimed his second goal of the game and fifth of the season.

Back came Solihull and Fomins registered his hat-trick marker to cut the deficit to 6-4.

In the final minute of the match - and on the Tomahawks’ fifth powerplay opportunit­y - Josh Hutton struck home his first effort of the campaign.
