No excuse for not winning, insists Perez

-

AYOZE Perez has insisted Newcastle United can have no excuses if they fail to emerge with a good result at Crystal Palace this weekend.

The Magpies have lost four of their first five fixtures in the Premier League but have came up against four sides from the top six.

Palace spent less than United in the summer but have still made a solid start to the season.

Looking ahead to the game Perez said: “It is going to be really important for us.

“We don’t use excuses but we cannot say this is against another top side.

“It is against a team whom we can beat and we have to be ready for it.

“It is three points and if we win them we forget about what has happened and we start climbing.

“It is going to be a great test for us because it is against a great team and the stadium is hard to play in.

“Even the top sides struggle there.”

Newcastle are currently struggling in second-bottom place in the Premier League with just one point on the board.

It is one of the worst starts to a season ever in the Premier League for the club and their poorest since 1999.

Perez - speaking at a Premier League Primary Stars PE lessons event at Beech Hill Primary School - said: “We are in a situation we would not like to be in but we are down there.

“We have played the top sides and now we start our season against teams at our level.

“Now is the time to get points. The team has not done badly but at the end of the day against the top sides you can play a good game and still be beaten.

“As we did last season, we must stick together and get points.”
