Very special Yaris
TOYOTA is paying tribute to its original Yaris model by introducing a new Y20 grade to its 2019 model range.
It marks the 20th anniversary of its popular small car that arrived here in 1998. Through two decades and three generations, the Yaris has become the Japanese company’s best-selling model in Europe, also being built in France.
The Launch Edition Y20 models feature gold paintwork similar to that of the original, but with a bitone dark grey roof.
These will be followed by full-production Y20 models that will also have a bi-tone finish, but with matching silver, white or black bodywork and a dark grey roof.
The exterior styling uses further dark grey features, including 16-inch machined-face ten-spoke alloy wheels, grey side mouldings, front grille, door mirror casings and fog light surrounds. The Y20 also sports dark-tinted rear privacy glass and Y20 badging.
The interior extends the dark grey theme applied to the centre console, steering wheel inserts and new chequered upholstery. Satin chrome air vents, speaker and meter surrounds and gear knob trim, black carpet mats with silver edging and Y20 badging on the instrument panel and front seatbacks are included inside.
There is also a new Yaris GR Sport model due here towards the end of the year.
It uses performance shock absorbers and a revised anti-roll bar with lowered ground clearance and black 17-inch alloy wheels.
The GR Sport is only available as a five-door and comes with a 1.5litre hybrid electric power combination.
Exterior styling includes a black bi-tone roof with rear spoiler plus piano black door mouldings, a black honeycomb grille, black door mirror housings and black front fog light surrounds.
Dark-tinted rear privacy glass is also standard, whilst red decals can be added to the front lip and the top line of the lower rear bumper.
Inside there are GR-branded sports front seats upholstered in black suede with contrasting white stitching and white inserts. The car is also equipped with the same small-diameter three-spoke steering wheel as the Toyota GT86 coupe.
