FOOTBALL fans won’t get a refund after Paul Gascoigne appeared “out of sorts” at a meet-and-greet.

The Newcastle United legend returned to Gateshead to meet and talk to fans alongside another Magpies and England hero Peter Beardsley.

But the organiser of the event, Steve Wraith, said some disgruntled ticketholders booed Gazza and called him a “disgrace” when he went on stage.

Some fans later took to Twitter and branded his appearance “cringeworthy” and said the event on Friday night should have been cancelled.

Mr Wraith, who organised the night with Newcastle Legends, said they had been told Gazza had a virus and went ahead with the night because they had an “obligation to customers”.

Now, Mr Wraith has said they will not be issuing any refunds to fans who could have bought a range of tickets that include getting a photograph and autograph.

In a statement posted on the Newcastle Legends’ Facebook page, Mr Wraith said that despite Gazza appearing “out of sorts”, he “fulfilled his obligations on the night”.

Mr Wraith added: “He arrived on time. He posed for every photograph that was paid for by VIPs and all VVIPs received one signed item as agreed.

“Paul, despite not being well, appeared on stage for one hour alongside Peter Beardsley and John Gibson before leaving the venue at 11.15pm.

“We have spoken to all those who purchased tickets direct from us.

“If you purchased your tickets from a third party then please contact them direct.”

After the event, Gazza took to Twitter to tell fans he had been unwell and his family had wanted to call the doctor.

Posting a picture of himself on the night, he added: “Love to all that came and seen me love from GAZZA x”
