Events cancelled after pub blaze
A POPULAR pub has posted an update on future events following a destructive blaze.
Flames ripped through the Mill House pub and restaurant near Springwell on September 13.
Huge plumes of smoke could be seen billowing into the sky as 26 firefighters were called to tackle the blaze in Gateshead.
Nobody was injured in the fire, but customers and staff were forced to flee the two-storey site.
Now, the pub said it is “beyond our ability” to honour future events booked in the main building or tipis.
The online post read: “Most people are aware of the tragic situation, The Mill House recently suffered a devastating fire.
“The past week has been extremely difficult for everyone involved, including staff, customers, management and owners.
“Whilst we will endeavour to honour any future events booked in the main building or the Tipis, at this present time, it is unfortunately beyond our ability.
“As you can imagine, there is so much happening behind the scenes. We will keep everyone updated once we know more from our insurers.
“Please be patient. The Mill House Team X”
The B1288, which runs past the pub, was closed for several hours as firefighters battled the blaze.
Station manager Geoff Hagon, of Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed his team had been able to contain the fire in the back of the building.
But the rear of the building, where the restaurant and kitchen were based, had suffered “a lot of smoke damage, water damage and quite a bit of heat and flame damage”.
