Lisle Hunt-ed down in Open final

ADAM Hunt has been crowned the 2018 Blyth Comrades Open champion after defeating Chris Lisle 4-2 in the final.

There were 69 entries on the day, which included talent from all over the North East.

Hunt firstly defeated Scott Hunt in his board final before dispatchin­g Andy Gradwell 4-0 in the quarterfin­als.

He went up against Andy Parks in the semis, where it was neck and neck early doors before Hunt took control and eventually prevailed 4-1.

Lisle had been in fine form going into the final, having overcome Stephen Adams in the last 16, Mark Stephenson 4-1 in the last eight and Micky Ord 4-3 in the semi-finals - but Hunt proved much too strong.

In the ladies’ competiito­n there were 11 entries, young Natasha Kennedy defeating Sarah Higgins 3-2 to take the honours.

In the youth section, Drew Mole emerged victorious from a total of 18 entries.

■■ANDY Allaker claimed the Durham CIU singles title, seeing off Cameron Anderson 3-1 in the decider.

CITY of Newcastle Golf Club’s three-man team of Phil Ridden, Alex Dixon and Zac Laws put up a stout defence of their England Champion Club title.

The trio finished runners-up in the 2018 final over the par-71 Huddersfie­ld golf course.

■■MONDAY is the deadline to make a nomination for the 2018 Sport Newcastle Unsung Heroes of Sport Awards.

The awards night will be held at Newcastle Falcons’ Kingston Park ground on Tuesday, November 27.

■■WHITLEY Arrows lost 8-0 to Manchester Storm in the English Under-11 North Ice Hockey League.
