Amazing Open Evening

-

LAST WEEK AT FARRINGDON Community Academy we held our annual Y6 Open Evening to allow perspective new students, and their parents, to have a look around our facilities and meet our staff and students. Despite an awful night weather-wise, the rain was pouring, a record number of our students signed up to help and the evening was really well attended.

We began with a short introduction from Mr Holder, our head, before student guides helped parents find their way around the various departments. Up in English there was a murder to be solved, in Maths some great puzzles and challenges and in Science – explosions and screaming jelly babies! There were language based puzzles in MFL and artefacts and costumes from the past to try out in History, some students also made poppies and thought about what might make a ‘New Europe’ after Brexit in Geography. There were also lots of great sporting activities to try out in the Sports Hall for those brave enough to venture out into the rain, many people also went over to the gym to try out the equipment there.

Visitors (both parents and the children) tried spotting hazards and making biscuits in Food Tech; making a phone holder in Hard Tech; 3D Animation in Media; stage skills in Drama; print screening in Art and much more. All students were given a Farringdon kit bag to place and ‘goodies’ they collected in.

We receive some really positive feedback from parents and students on the evening and it was lovely to see not only siblings of many students already at our school and those from our feeder schools; but also students from a lot further afield. All those students who helped out have gained house points for doing so.
