United a striker light against Foxes

STRIKER TO MISS LEICESTER GAME WITH THIGH INJURY

- Salomon Rondon is out of the Leicester game

SALOMON Rondon has been ruled out of Saturday’s game with Leicester City due to injury, writes LEE RYDER.

The on-loan West Bromwich Albion striker picked up a muscle injury in the 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace.

The Magpies have taken the unusual step of announcing he will miss the clash with the Foxes.

A short statement from United read: “Salomon Rondon will miss Saturday’s match against Leicester City after sustaining a thigh injury during last weekend’s draw at Crystal Palace.

“The Venezuelan striker, who is on a season-long loan from West Bromwich Albion, was withdrawn from the match at Selhurst Park at half time.

“Rondon is undergoing treatment with the Magpies’ medical team and further assessment of the extent of the injury will be made in due course.”

Rafa Benitez had said after the Palace game: “Rondon was feeling a bit of tightness in his quad muscle, so we needed to take him out.”

Newcastle have a relatively clear treatment room with Florian Lejeune the only long-term absentee.

However, Rondon’s injury highlights how short United are of proven goalscorers. Joselu, Ayoze Perez and Yoshinori Muto are now pushing for a place against Leicester. Simon Hooper (Wiltshire) AWARDED Newcastle a rare penalty against Burnley last season which Joselu missed.
