Council to consider Blaydon site plans

PLANS to build flats and large houses in the grounds of Blaydon House have been submitted to Gateshead Council.

Two empty social clubs sit in the grounds of Blaydon House which an archaeological appraisal has said have no merit.

Plans would see them demolished, the 19th century Blaydon House left and houses built in the grounds.

Designs show large, high-end houses with fenced in gardens and driveways.

There will be four-bedroom houses, seven two-bedroom flats in two separate flat blocks and three two-bedroom mews houses on the site.

A report to planners sayshe ground floors of the houses will have ‘higher than normal ceilings to enhance the feeling of spaciousness’ and all houses will have French doors on to gardens, which will all be south west facing.

A ‘formal boundry’ will be put in place to reinforce the privacy of the estate.

However, it is not clear if this will be gated. The developers say the estate could be a catalyst for more investment in the Blaydon area.

The report says: “The development is located within an existing established community where demand for reasonable cost new housing is high and will have a positive impact on local values and may provoke other capital investment in the area.”

A deadline for the decision has been issued for November 22.
