Spanish teen making a name for himself in second string

- Juanito after signing for the Magpies

NEWCASTLE United’s Spanish teenage striker Juanito is rebuilding his career under second string coach Ben Dawson.

The forward, whose full name is Jesus Nunez Cumbrera, spent last season on loan at Deportivo La Coruna but returned to Tyneside in the summer.

Juanito came off the bench to score his first goal since returning to the club in the 5-2 win against Fulham in Premier League 2.

At 19 he still has a chance of making it with Newcastle and Geordie coach Dawson is delighted with his progress.

After he scored his first goal of the season against Fulham, Dawson said: “He trained on that morning and was involved in the game in the evening.

“So he’s working really hard. It was nice for him to get on the end of something to boost his confidence.”

Dawson explained why Juanito made a low-key return to the club after leaving for the 2017/18 campaign.

Juanito arrived from Recreativo de Huelva in 2016 but he has made slow progress at the Academy.

He said: “He’s come back to us.

“Last season we had a lot of bodies in the squad and we had to get the lads some game-time.

“So the best decision was to get him out on loan. We have decided to go with a smaller squad and work with those lads.

“He has been very much an important part of that so far.”
