BLATANT and brazen – this is the moment thieves made off with a £1,300 gold ring from a Tyneside jeweller’s shop.

CCTV captures the trio snatching the ring they’d asked to be shown at the Newcastle Jewellery Company.

The footage shows two young men entering the shop and standing by the counter before asking to see the ring valued at £1,295.

One of them then grabs it and the pair run out of the door, accompanied by a third youngster, who is seen holding the door open.

Another clip shows the thee of them running off down Pilgrim Street towards the Tyne Bridge.

Store owner Rob Hall has now appealed for people to help police in identifying the culprits.

Mr Hall said the youngsters were also in the shop last Thursday, and believes they may have planned to steal the ring then.

They returned on Saturday at around 2.30pm.

He said: “I was at the back of the shop when it happened.

“On the CCTV you can see one of them pulls the door open and pretends to go out, then comes back in, which we think was them giving a signal.

“They asked to see the ring and one of the sales assistants showed it to them.

“One of them snatched it out of her hands and they ran to the door and down the street towards the Tyne Bridge.

“The staff member involved was a bit shaken up by it.

“We are pretty resilient and we support each other but that did knock her sideways.”

A police spokesperson said: “At around 2.48pm on Saturday, officers received a report of theft at Newcastle Jewellery Company on Pilgrim Street in Newcastle city centre and attended the scene.

“It is understood that two unknown offenders had entered the premises and taken a ring before fleeing the scene.

“Inquiries are ongoing to locate those responsible and anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police on 101 quoting log 677 of 06/10/18.”
