Shock, horror

Simon Duke on a North East Halloween experience:

-

ITS terrifying teaser videos have been watched over 60,000 times and the chills are now multiplying as Psycho Path is officially open!

The massive new Halloween event, set across 1.5 miles at Lintz Hall Farm in Burnopfield looks set to be a red hot ticket for brave souls out there was we creep closer to October 31.

The build up to it has been huge and a few of the Chron team - myself included (what was I thinking?!) got a first look at the course ahead on Thursday’s VIP night ahead of Friday night’s public launch.

I’ll say this now so I won’t need to repeat myself later - I’m not going to give much away as there are plenty of scary surprises in store that need to remain a secret until you experience them yourselves.

You’re not allowed to film while you’re on the path, and to be honest my phone would have gone flying on multiple occasions if we were, so this story is a largely spoiler free zone.

But here’s a frightening flavour of what to expect if you’ve got a ticket.

I’ll answer the obvious question straight away. It is VERY scary. If you rock up all cocky thinking nothing can scare you, you’re in for a shock.

Yes, it is fun, yes you’ll probably laugh at the friend who screams at everything (might have been me!) but the fact that you literally have no clue what is lurking around the next corner, what you might jump out at you from behind a tree and the fact that for the most part you can barely see in front of you, does make for a very unsettling time of things.

Oh...and did I mention the actors are allowed to touch you?

It feels like you’re in a horror movie. With a name like Psycho Path, you’d be a fool to expect all smiles and rainbows and the organisers’ aim to take the horror chase genre up a few notches has definitely been achieved.

While you might not have too much opportunity to appreciate it as you’re encountering some unsavoury characters along the way, the setting for Psycho Path is absolutely stunning.

Acres of remote farmland, which will look perfectly friendly during the day, suddenly become a pitch black cloud of uncertainty as you make your way through the course.

And the ante is upped thanks to some VERY high production values. They say the beauty, or in this case the horror, is in the detail, and the Psycho Path team have gone all out from highly realistic make up, to horror sets that will impress and terrify you in equal measire.

There are a LOT of unsavoury characters to encounter. From the moment you set foot in an otherwise cosy barn to enjoy a few pre-scare beverages (much needed!) you encounter some of the Psycho Path cast.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg as there are all manner of characters out on the course, from ones who look obviously terrifying to some ordinary looking actors who will have you questioning who you can trust.

You will be scared from the get-go! Unlike some events of the same ilk and scary rides that lead you into a false sense of security or ease you in gently, Psycho Path goes for the jugular straight away.

I’m not going to spoil things as, for me, the start was one of, if not the scariest part of the whole thing, so be prepared!

The Psycho Path course says that each group should take around 45 minutes to complete the course and believe me when I say, you can get scared plenty of times in 45 minutes.

They say time flies when you’re having fun but don’t expect it to when you’re being frightened...well that is unless you’re running away at Usian Bolt speed to get away from things!

Every cloud and all that! If you’re not designated driver you WILL want to have a few drinks beforehand and most probably afterwards to calm the nerves!

There’s also loads of food on offer including Tango Burgers and The Bake, but maybe wait until after to tuck in and being scared out of your whits is stomach churning work!

Tickets for Psycho Path are still available online from the Psycho Path website.
