No Boston tea party for Spartans - and their manager is fuming

- By JEFF BOWRON

BLYTH Spartans’ manager Alun Armstrong has blasted his players ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup clash with York City.

Armstrong was left frustrated and angry at his side’s tame capitulation against Boston United in Lincolnshire.

The Pilgrims romped to a 4-0 ictory over a lethargic Blyth at York Street as Armstrong’s men remain in trouble.

Spartans are fourth bottom of National League North and have lost eight of their 12 games - no side has lost more.

The defeat was Blyth’s heaviest of the season and Boston’s best win, the Spartans second best all over the pitch.

Armstrong said: “We were abysmal from start to finish.

“It was a horror show and nowhere near good enough.

“We are in a precarious position in the league and there has been far too much emphasis on the FA Cup.

“That showed in our display on Saturday.

“We only managed two efforts at goal and none on target - it was brutal. I have no doubt we will be up for it when York rock up at Croft Park - but we needed to perform at Boston and did not.

“We took our eye off the ball and paid the price.

“I am a bit shell-shocked to be honest because I thought we had turned the corner.”

Blyth conceded a poor goal in the first half and three more in 15 secondhalf minutes, Gavin Allott scoring twice on his debut.

Gregg Smith and Nicky Walker also notched for the Pilgrims on an afternoon to forget for a very disappointing Blyth.
