Vera’s down on the beach

- HANNAH GRAHAM Reporter

Vera investigates at Whitley Bay:

THE beach at Whitley Bay seems to be the scene of the latest crime to be tackled by the North East’s favourite detective.

Sporting her trademark mac and hat, along with a bright red scarf, DCI Vera Stanhope has been seen once again in the North East.

Locals spotted her hard at work on the beach at Whitley Bay on Sunday.

Filming for the popular ITV show Vera attracted quite a crowd, and families watched on with interest from the promenade as the beach was transformed into a film set.

It appears one of Vera’s next outings will involve an unpleasant discovery on the beach, as actors in forensics gear were seen alongside the usual host of uniformed police officers.

While ‘Vera’ maintained her serious, detective persona, photographer Louise Warburton also captured a snap of actress Brenda Blethyn smiling for the cameras.

The actress, 72, has spoken to The Chronicle in the past about the love she’s developed for the North East while filming in our region. “I had no idea it was so lovely in the North East because I hadn’t been there before,” she said. “To see it for real was something else. It’s so beautiful.”

It’s not yet known when Vera’s ninth series, currently being filmed, will be shown on TV, but it’s likely that locals will once again enjoy tuning in to see their favourite haunts on screen. Just as in previous series, there are set to be four episodes in total.
