Hundreds of festive postal workers wanted

-

ROYAL Mail is seeking hundreds of seasonal staff to work in its Gateshead centre over the Christmas period.

Workers will help sort the Christmas post and the increasing amount of online shopping parcels.

Temporary positions will be across a variety of shifts, from late October to early January 2019, with the peak of the work being in the busiest month of December.

Individuals will be paid between £7.83 and £12.48 depending on age and shifts worked.

The company has 428 seasonal roles available in Gateshead and is recruiting 23,000 temporary members of staff across the UK.

Royal Mail’s express parcel business, Parcelforce Worldwide, is also looking for drivers and indoor workers as the organisation gears up to deliver Christmas parcels.

Royal Mail post and parcels CEO Sue Whalley said Christmas continues to be their busiest time of year.

She added: “We plan all year round to ensure we deliver the best possible service for UK customers and businesses before, during and after the festive season.

“We continue to make this substantial commitment in additional resources, including the recruitment of thousands of temporary workers, to ensure we can continue to deal with the huge amount of festive parcels, cards and online shopping orders, which we will be asked to deliver for our customers in every part of the country.”

Royal Mail has set up a website for applications for the Christmas positions or by calling the helpline on 0345 600 1785.
