Revenge is so sweet for the derby victors

THE return Gateshead derby was the only Premier Division game to be played with other sides on Benevolent Bowl duty.

The spoils went to the hosts Gateshead A, who avenged their opening-day loss by defeating Gateshead Rutherford 4-2.

The Heed side netted through McGeoch, Warriner, Hayhurst and Slater, Langston and Jefferson replying.

In the Northumber­land Senior Benevolent Bowl, a hat-trick from Lee Scott gave leaders Newcastle University a 3-1 win at home to Seaton Delaval who replied through Sam Johnson.

Newcastle Chemfica enjoyed a comfortabl­e 6-0 victory at North Shields Athletic.

Sam Grieveson hit a four-goal salvo, with braces either side of the interval after Josh Grice had opened the scoring on seven minutes.

Darryl Basham wrapped things up 12 minutes from time.

Three goals in the opening half hour enabled Whitley Bay A to dismiss hosts Percy Main Amateurs.

The Seasiders took the lead after just a minute through Sven Hart.

Dale Johnson put through his own net after 15 minutes and Hylton Hub wrapped things up just after the half-hour.

Tommy Bainbridge netted twice for FC United of Newcastle in their 3-1 triumph at Division One Forest Hall, Dylan Swann with the other and Lewis Gardner replying.

Lee Waugh bagged a brace as AFC New Fordley defeated Seaton Burn 3-1, Ali Henderson nabbing the other counter.

Thomas Truscott helped himself to a six-goal haul, including four in 13 second-half minutes, as Wallington dismantled hosts Ponteland United 7-1.

Kyle Reardon also notched three minutes from time and contribute­d an own goal.

Doubles from Martin Soulsby and Shane Brookes helped Newcastle Blue Star see off a dogged Wallsend Community 5-2.

The game was level at the interval after strikes from Soulsby and Gavin Dick were cancelled out by quick-fire efforts from the visitors’ Kane Chirnside and Ethan Brown.

Brookes got in on the act with his double after the break before Soulsby added his second with four minutes remaining.

■ IN the top-of-the-table clash in Divisioin One, leaders Blyth Town defeated hosts Bedlington 3-0.

Sam Watts scored twice and Jak Ditchburn claimed the other. Wallsend Boys Club, prevailed 3-2 at home to Prudhoe Youth Club thanks to strikes from Paul Antony, Steven Buzzeo and Roy Gordon.

Hexham defeated pointless bottom club Newcastle East End 6-0, Kurtis Harvey grabbing a hat-trick alongside finishes from Will Forsyth, Robbie Pattinson and Neil McDonald.

Winlaton Vulcans progressed in the Durham Minor Cup on the back of a 5-0 win at Durham City Reserves.

A Matty Baldwin brace had the Alliance side 2-0 up inside half an hour and Niall Codling made it three by the break.

After the restart further goals were added by Chad Collins, who netted twice in a seven-minute spell to seal the win.

■ DIVISION Two leaders Rothbury maintained their impressive start to the season when they triumphed 3-2 against secondplac­ed Whitley Sporting Club.

Michael Old helped himself to a brace, Daniel Thompson with his eleventh goal of the campaign.

The hosts replied through Thomas Atkinson and Arron Moulding.
