A MUM and daughter team have been praised for helping a homeless man who was attacked and left in pain.

Alexandria Wright and her six-yearold daughter Avaleigh have set out to help Gavin Green who often sits outside Friendly’s convenient store in Low Fell, Gateshead.

Gavin, 35, originally from Birtley, lost his flat in Pelton Fell just four months ago after his benefit money was reduced and he couldn’t afford the rent.

He took to the streets with a bag of his belongings and chose Low Fell to sit as he felt safer there. He said that on Sunday he was sitting on the Swing Bridge in Gateshead, when someone went past and kicked him in his face, giving him two black eyes.

Alexandria and Avaleigh found out what happened and are now doing all they can to help find Gavin a home.

The good Samaritans have already taken him food, pain killers, a blanket, a flask and a coat, and they have inspired others to help too.

They have also set up a Gofundme page to raise money for him and more than £1,000 has been raised in just one day. After The Chronicle published their story, dozens of people have been commenting about the mum and daughter’s kind actions on social media sites.

One woman wrote on Facebook: “Well done Alexandria and you should be so proud of your daughter.” Another said: “Restores my faith in human nature. Good on you Avaleigh.”

A supporter said on Gofundme: “We need to lift people up, not walk by blind. An amazing child and mother, a man in need of support and care. I hope he gets it with their help and wish the best for him.”
