Arena plan for Quayside draws mixed response
IT has been dubbed a “gamechanger”. But Chronicle readers say it is everything from “terrific” to “another great big waste of money”.
Gateshead Quayside could host a privately-funded 12,500-seat arena and entertainment hub.
New images have been unveiled of what the Government’s hailed as one of Britain’s most exciting developments. Some readers have lauded the plans although others aren’t as impressed.
Posting on the ChronicleLive Facebook page, Jack Laws said he loved the idea. But he added: “The only aspect that worries me is the masses of people, probably after a few pints, using the Millennium Bridge all at once after a show.
“Not against it but that could be a bit of a danger.”
Like many, David Ludlow said it had “to be an improvement” on the Metro Radio Arena.
Many fans hope the bigger, more modern venue could lure huge acts to Tyneside.
One fan even suggested
U2.
But while many praised its aesthetics, some raised concerns. “When we get to this magnificent destination I wonder where we will park,” said Mick Symes.
Others, like Hilarie Wilkie, questioned the location. “The current arena is close to the railway station for fans arriving from other areas and is a better location.”
