DOUBLE3 HANDFUL

- John Shaw’s racing betting column in association with

JOHN GOSDEN could do more damage to the bookmaking industry in one day than I’ve done it good in my career as a tipster. I’m so broke at the moment that if someone rings my doorbell I have to yell: “Ding-dong!” out of the window.

They’ll be an army of punters backing what I’m labelling the ‘Gosden Good Things’, in a Champions Day fourfold. And if the acca lands, an avalanche of money will be leaving the bookies’ satchels — and possibly even their Swiss bank accounts.

Stradivarius is the odds-on favourite to land the Long Distance Cup, Lah Ti Dar is the jolly in the Fillies & Mares Stakes, while Roaring Lion bids for his fourth Group 1 in a row in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. Completing the possible quartet of winners will be Cracksman, defending his Champion Stakes crown.

There’s so many great races and good quality horses running at Ascot it’s difficult to pinpoint the best banker in terms of a payout.

After much deliberation, and some dribbling, I’ve decided the bet of the day has to be LAH TI DAR in the Fillies & Mares.

This sister of Too Darn Hot won her first three starts before acquitting herself well in the Leger, chasing home an experienced colt in Kew Gardens.

The daughter of Dubawi is owned by the LloydWebbers, who sold a yearling for a whopping £3.6million last week yet still they refuse to reply to any of my begging letters.

Lah Ti Dar hasn’t got the best draw in stall 10 but I think she’ll be far too good for the opposition.

She likes some cut underfoot, is still improving and will have the experience of Frankie Dettori on board, who is bidding to win the race for a fifth time.

Six of the last 10 winners have been three-year-olds, and all of the last 10 winners had raced three times or more, so the omens look very good for Lah Ti Dar.
