SMIRKING SAVAGE
Grinning in mugshot after doing this
LYING in Casualty, covered in blood, mum Jade Gallagher bravely poses for the camera – as her ex leers at one for his police mughsot.
The mum-of-one was left terrified after twisted Jack Bushell chased her down her own street – in the nude – after already beating her in her home.
He caught her, and as neighbours looked on helplessly in horror, he dragged the 26-year-old by her hair and beat her unconscious.
A court heard the attack was so brutal, it caused the victim to throw up. Just over 24 hours later, brutish Bushell, from South Shields, admitted everything and was locked up.
As Bushell appeared in the dock, his family shouted “love you” before they were told what he’d done.
“He was effectively holding her head with one hand, and punching her with the other,” said prosecutor Paul Anderson.
The pair, South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court heard, had been at a party on the Saturday night.
Jade returned home but Bushell turned up at 5.15am.
“He punched her repeatedly as she tried to get away from him,” added Mr Anderson. “He was calling her a f***ing stupid cow.
“He punched her and wouldn’t stop and he pushed her to the floor and kicked her to the body.
“She felt like she was going to lose conciousness.”
But after kicking him and escaping into the street, she sought sanctuary with neighbours. One recalled her frantically screaming: “Julie, Julie – he’s going to kill me!”
Another said she was “covered in blood and her hair was an absolute mess”.
But “completely naked” Bushell came after her, dragging her in the street. Neighbours asked him to get off before Northumbria Police arrived to arrest him.
An ambulance was called as Jade slipped in and out of consciousness. At the station, Bushell refused to speak to police.
He was “aggressive” with officers, the court heard.
Jade suffered bruising, lacerations, cuts and a possible broken nose. He had been with her even though she had a restraining order against him.
The “unusual” order, imposed in September, was drafted so she could fulfil her wish of trying to make the relationship work with Bushell, of Soane Gardens, South Shields.
However the court was told it was “over” after this attack, the latest in a relationship with a “history of violence”.
Despite being just 22, Bushell possesses a chilling record – with a tendency to pester women.
He’s now breached two restraining orders against two different former partners, the court heard.
Court documents reveal he sent Jade a flurry of unwanted texts over a fortnight this summer, and also turned up to her home twice.
He’d also damaged her French doors, causing £200 of damage.
In total, he has nine convictions – including stalking.
Ironically, he was also currently on an order aimed at making him “build better relationships”.
His family, including his mum, had turned up to the court hearing to support him.
They wept and told him “we love you” as he was locked up until he’s sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court on November 19.
As he left, they gestured to each other before angry Bushell was heard shouting “f***”.
The conviction also means he will likely lose the scaffolding job he had only started last week.
His solicitor had asked for him to be bailed, but the three-strong bench claimed there were “substantial grounds” to believe he may re-offend.
He had earlier pleaded guilty to ABH and harassing, pestering or intimidating the victim.
And Mr Anderson claimed those charges still don’t paint a “full picture” of how bad the relationship was.
