FIRST DATES: CELEBRITY SPECIAL FOR STAND UP TO CANCER
Channel 4, 9pm
IT’S A celebrity special in aid of Stand Up 2 Cancer, which means the several daters turning up in the hope of being matched with their true love are about to find themselves sat across the table from a famous face.
Although, rather awkwardly, some of them don’t actually recognise the celeb in front of them (something a couple of them are clearly none too pleased about).
The folks in question are – in no particular order – Lady Colin Campbell, Joey Essex, Sandra from Gogglebox and Melinda Messenger.
And the First Dates team have done their usual impressive job of finding a potentially perfect partner for each of them – no mean feat when you’re dealing with that little lot.
As with the civilian version, there’s plenty to laugh, cringe and aaaaaw at, as they negotiate the nerves and get their flirt on – some more subtly than others, eh Sandra?
BBC HORIZON – VITAMIN PILLS: MIRACLE OR MYTH?
BBC2, 9pm
IT’S big business, all this vitamins and supplements malarkey, worth more than £400m a year in the UK, with nearly half of us taking something every day.
It seems to just be one of those beliefs or mantras, like eating our five a day, that getting the recommended daily doses of everything going, from A to Z, is good for us – and in fact improves our health.
But scientist Dr Giles Yeo, pictured, has been doing some serious digging to find out if that is actually true.
He goes right back to look at the origins of what has now developed into a £100bn global industry, examining the word-play companies use on packaging to support their claims without going too far.
He also looks at the more recent scientific studies which could dispute long-held beliefs about the power of antioxidants. So will we end up ditching the pills or buying more?
